Fork Replacement Reccs?
Hey all, I've got an '08 Jamis XCR comp with a RockShox Recon 351 that I rebuilt 4-5ish years ago. As of now the fork is Hydrolocked. The lockout stopped working last season, so I started planning another rebuild, but now that it's locked I'm thinking I might just bite the bullet and upgrade it. Due to some life constraints I haven't really kept up with the latest and greatest in gear the last few years. Any of you gearheads have reccs?
Requirements, in no certain order: 1 1/8" steerer, lockout (not necessarily remote), 120-140mm of travel. Checked out the Fox 34, checked out the Manitou Minute, currently leaning towards the Minute due to cost. Thanks!! -Josh |
New or used? You can get a better deal used, but you need to be able to rebuild it or figure in the cost to have someone else do it.
In general 1-1/8" straight steerer forks are getting harder and harder to come by. I have had good luck with used RS Revelation Dual Air forks, as well as Fox F80 and F100 forks (R, RL and RLT). Those forks were really simple to disassemble and reassemble with new seals/oil. The 130mm Rev dual air is one of the best feeling forks short of an oil bath / spring Marzocchi fork, which is almost twice the weight of an air fork. |
