29er MTB with drop bars/700c road tires

Anyone have a 29er MTB set up like that? 29 and 700c are the same diameter.

Yeah there's lots of 26's in the vintage section. But you can use 700c road disc rims with a 29er.

Been thinking about doing just that to my mtb. I have a Scott Scale 29'er that has only been used for commuting as of late and thought about doing a full Ultegra Di2 drop bar conversion with some smaller tubeless cx tires to make a high end beater. Oh Yeah!!!

That would be kind of cool with a suspension fork. Full suspension would be overkill but I'd like to ride one.

There's no vintage bikes that are 29ers.

That's road geometry with 650b wheels and it's expensive as hell.

The Slate Looks to be a badass bike but I'm not sold on the 650b wheel size, they should have made it 700c (in my opinion). I will own a Lefty one day, they are just sick!

Not exactly what's in the OP but people do CX bikes with MTB wheels/tires or 29'er frames with drop bars and rigid forks all the time for gravel racing.

Almost did it with my 29er below. Geometry just wan't optimal. Bikes designed for flat bars if they fit correctly with flatbar, generally have a 20-40mm longer top tube than a bike designed to fit a given rider with a drop bar. Obvious reason is...hoods protrude forward, drops are lower and farther away from a rider and of course a flat bar is either straight across or has some pull back.

Since I wanted a skinny tire...up to 28c workhorse bike, I decided to build a Spesh Secteur dropbar bike instead and part out the Ti 29er below. Good decision btw. I did like the 29er and road it off road with bigger volume tires and on road with skinnys but all said, I spend way more time on road and prefer a drop bar. Best to choose a frameset designed for a dropbar that fits the wheel size you prefer. Quite a few frames to choose from that are drop bar and can fit a bit larger 700c which btw is the gravel bike genre...basically a drop bar version of a 29er.

Yeah you would have to have a shorter stem but I like short stems. My 17 inch MTB frame has a 22 inch top tube, the effective length is 58 and that's only 1-2cm longer than what I have on my road bikes.

Because I'm talking about a bicycle that is meant to be ridden on the road. As in road cycling. Not mountain biking on singletrack. I thought that was obvious.

I put dropbars on my old 26er MTB to turn it into a commuter. Fine-tuning the fit was kind of arduous, and I wound up using a lot shorter stem than I used with the flat bars. However, once I got it all done and tuned, it's a hoot to ride...I'm really glad I did it. I would think doing the same to a nice rigid 29er frame would work out pretty well, too.

No, more like 700c road wheels/tires, drop bars and a modern road group.
