Cod???
 

I'm selling a pair of shifters online, and several people have requested me to ship them COD. Is this safe for me, as a seller?? Also, how would I get the money??

I wouldn't... not with paypal available. I'm not sure exactly how COD works; check the UPS and Fedex websites. I suspect they take a pretty good cut, too.

That isn't particularly safe for you as a seller. If they're really that concerned get them to stump up for escrow.

Yeah, I sent them dozens of pictures and a movie. If they still want to COD, I'll just wait for someone else. $70 CAD isn't a lot of money for shifters, and if they dont trust me, I consider its their loss..

Cash on delivery works like this:

You go to post office and tell them you want to send it Cash on Delivery.

They send out the parcel.

Parcel is received on the other end and if accepted, they will pay for the package.

Once this is done, a money order is sent to you. A money order is like a postal office cheque, just as good as cash almost except the fact that you have to cash it first.

It's perfectly safe for you as a seller.

"COD is a service for domestic mail for which an amount due to the sender, up to $1,000, is collected from the addressee before delivery and returned to the mailer. It is a service available to consumer and business mailers. COD is available for parcels only or items mailed at parcel rates.

The amount collected from the addressee can include:

Amount representing the value of the item.
Service charge in the case of repairs.
Sales tax.
Postage.
COD fee and special service fees.
COD cannot be used to collect on items not ordered or requested by the addressee or to collect money owing on previous accounts. Indemnity is available up to $1,000. Items sent COD must abide by Canada Post mail preparation requirements. The amount of the COD collected from the addressee will be forwarded to the sender by Postal Money Order when payment is made by cash or by cheque drawn up by the addressee payable to the sender. "

It's not a bad method of payment, but you will have to pay a little extra, of course you can just make them pay for it. Got a link to where/what you're selling? I'd like to see :D

Yeah, swiffer... he's in Ontario. Was that the USPS info you quoted? Your reference to Sales tax (vs GST/PST) leads me to believe that that's the case. Probably isn't the same for the Canadian postal service, especially if the buyer isn't in Canada.

Aaahh..Thanks for the advice. I haven't sold that much stuff online, so I wasn't aware how safe anything really is. I did know there are a lot of scammers out there.

Yeah, I'm in Hamilton, Ontario, and the potential buyer is in North Bay, Ontario. I have a guy who may buy it for $10 less in Hamilton, and another potential buyer that may do paypal. I think I will try to local guy first to avoid all the extra hassle.

I have some old 8-speed XT shifters(black, sans indicators) that are collecting dust right now. Dude wanted them, but I have yet to get a clear picture of them(me not a photographer) and he found some 7-speed(which is what his drivetrain was anyway). Holla if you(or anyone else wants 'em--for cheap).
