Need help buying a bike

Good Afternoon,

I've recently moved to a new city, with great variety of biking trails and wanted to purchase a bike, my price point is under $200 and wanted to know if i'd be better off with a dual suspension or front suspension bike. I wouldn't be doing any rough terrain ridding.

Thank you.

At your price point, I'd suggest avoiding the FS rigs- they'll likely to either need serious repair, were BSOs to begin with, or stolen.

Might try to find an old fully rigid that has clearance for wider tires and call it good.

Edit to add: FS in this case means full suspension. A front suspension only is referred to as a Hard Tail (HT).

From your question and budget I will assume your a beginner,,, $200,,,you should save a little more while you hang out at the trail head and ask a few riders where to find the best local bike shops that sell mountain bikes that will stand up to the local trails.

My Green/beginner trails make things fall off walmart bikes..
My Intermediate blue level trails will destroy most $200 bikes on the first ride.
My Black diamond advanced trails break bones In Intermediate level riders bodies even when they are on bikes fully capable of handing these trails,,If they do not yet have the skills they need...

Don't go out there on unfamiliar trails on a marginal bike as a beginner and get hurt,,,,

Just sayin ~~~

This Is me, I fell trying not to run over beginner who crashed In front of me:

That's what happens when you ride flats.

OP: Buy any old mountain bike on craigslist that fits you and has NO suspension or only front suspension for <$200.
