Bike Recomendations?

im lookin for a bike like 300-700$ , will be my first bike in about 8 years, the last bike i rode was a bmx, which i liked, but im too old for one of those now. so im lookin for a mountain bike that has a bmx feel to it, and i want it at light as possible cause i feel more in control of bikes when they are light, also need to carry it up and down the stairs to my apartment. mostly i want the bike just for exercise, will ride on the roads and bike trails, bunnyhopping is good too, will not do any drops or downhill stuff, so it doesnt need to be bulletproof, also would like it to be low maitnence, since i doubt ill be wanting to work on it every time i ride.

i was lookin at single speeds, which i like, since they are supposably lighter, and are easy to maintain, but not to many choices of those to buy ready made, and the ones i like are way to expensive, which i dont get why? they have lot less parts? allthough i think i wouldnt mind having extra speeds since i can probably ride longer distances with them.. so do any of you know of any bikes that might work well for what i want?

thanks ~

kona scrap perhaps..i think thats the one in your price range. its a dirt jumping/park bike so it will have the bmx feel to it. and can be used for transportion...others may be a gary fisher bigg'ns hardtale: same type of bike as scrap...
specialized p1 can be gotten in single speed...
just a few options

hey thanx for the suggestions, i looked into those kona DJ bikes and i think they may be too heavy for what i want it for, which sucks cause i like the geometry of those type of bikes, but they are meant for jumping so they use alot of beefy parts which makes it heavier. would be nice if they made a light dirtjump bike , dont think there are any though?

You might consider a BMX 'cruiser' with 24" wheels. The DK Fury is actually pretty light, it's sub-30 lb easily. Aluminum frame, single speed, rear-only brake, rigid fork.

The 2005 one seems to be more oriented toward racing, the 2004 that I have is more of a jumping/general purpose one. Thicker tubing (I think), seat with more padding, better paint job

If you want 26, gears and a suspension fork, I'd say the Giant STP series is a good place to look. The STP geometry is supposed to be pretty good for trials... Not quite a 'bmx' feel, but you might like it.

Are you all reading a different thread? Stop giving him heavy freeride hardtails, he clearly said he's not into that.

will ride on the roads and bike trails,
XC.

I could look at adventure hardtails. They are light, low maintenence, and are mostly in your price range. They are also excellent for exercise. Bunnyhopping is possible on any bike with practice.
