Need Haro Help

So I found a Haro Escape 8.1 (unsure year) in the trash. It rides but not nicely, mainly a problem with the shifting. I want replacement parts basically but having problems finding such parts. Shift down levers are broken... stuck in the highest gear.

SRAM X8 - located on the shifters
SRAM 5.0 - rear derailleur
Alivio Shimano - crank derailleur

other info~
Haro Hydro H2 Formed Aluminum (frame?)
M 6061

Parts frequently get changed from stock but the general parts spec tells me that your Escape 8.1 is a 2005 model:

2005 Haro Escape - BikePedia 8.1&Type=bike

X8? That's probably a 5 or a 9 you're seeing. Regardless, you cannot buy all but the most basic external spare parts for SRAM X-series shifters. The only way to get internals is to get your hands on other broken, 'for-parts-only' used shifters; and even then, the high-wear parts you need are probably shot in the donor pods too.

Since this is a 9-speed system, your best bet is to have your LBS order you a set of X5 shifters. Almost NOBODY (onlines included) carries X7 or X9 9-speed shifters anymore. Believe me, I know this, since the X9 9-spd rear shifter pod on my downhill bike just self-destructed recently.

Thank you for your response! The bike is 3x9 and the shifter displays X7, I think the rear derailleur says X5 though.
Will a simple pair of 3x9 shifters from amazon cross over onto this bike?

You will need SRAM brand 9spd shifters. The ones you linked are Shimano and are not compatible.

It seems X5 is the lowest level SRAM offers for 9spd.

Edit: What FrozenK said above. Your X-series derailleur requires shifters that actuate with SRAM's 1:1 cable pull (Shimano uses 2:1 ratio). If you're looking for a bargain on Amazon, you may also encounter Sunrace shifters - - these are also not compatible, as they also use Shimano 2:1 ratio.
