arm/knee pads
 

I have a pair of 661 pads that I've been using for a few years. They're good for big impacts, but I have a hard time with them staying put. They're also not super comfy.

Today I had an off and rashed my left forearm pretty badly, bruised some ribs, and the left knee pad slid down during my slide and I took a layer of skin off my kneecap. I'm looking for some better pads that stay put and maybe cover more than the knees. Also a set of pads for the arms.

I saw an ad for a mesh style set in MBA, but I'll be damned if I can find the ad now. Looking around online, I ran across the AlpineStars Paragon pads, which come in arm and knee. The price looks reasonable, but it's hard to tell much else.

Does anyone have a set of these? If so, do they stay put? Are they comfy in hot weather?

If not, what pads to you use?

There were only a very few SixSixOne pads that stayed put. I know this because I owned a lot of different ones. The EVO with the D30 impact material were all-day comfy and stayed in place; but, alas, it appears they have been discontinued. I never owned the Kyle Straits but they got rave reviews and are sorely missed by a lot of people.


I have so far been impressed with the 7iDP Protection guards that I have. I just got the Flex knee/shins and they stayed put for a 16-lap day of downhilling at the bike park. They make a knee-only version that I have to think would be every bit as good. If you prefer a hard-cap, look at the Control line.

Thanks! The 7iDP leg guards look pretty good, although the arm version looks a little bulky. I don't need a hard cap, but I did want something that covered the shin a little more than the ones I have.

Give a look at the 7iDP Transition elbows. They aren't bulky, are fabric covered but still have good protection. I wear the Control but I got my adult son a set and he's happy with them. Beware - - they run large for the sizing. Might want to think about a size smaller than you'd think you might need.

I actually have the Alpinestars Paragon pads, both the arm and leg versions.

I don't have a whole lot to compare them to. They're moderately bulky, so a bit worse to pedal than a lightweight G-form pad. They're still not bad, and I don't have any trouble doing extended climbs with them. The pads have double silicon strips top and bottom so they stay in place reasonably well. Elbow pads are easy. The grippers on the knee pads hit right where my quad tapers in at the the knee so the top tends to slip a little. I've got pretty big quads (think sprinter) so if you've got less well defined quads it won't be much of a issue.

Ventalition wise they feel pretty good. The pads actually have a lot of holes in front so they vent decently well. Still they're pretty bulky and I tend to reserve them for more technical riding or colder days. Summer riding on my regular trail, I'll just go without, since I tend to do non-technical riding.

Good info as I've got the same quad issue, which is one of the reasons the 661 pads ride down for me.

What about something like this design? ( i googled knee brace because in my mind i was thinking something bigger and wraps all the way around- i have no idea if a knee pad is made like this)

I'm seeing Hard court sports like Basketball, elbow pads in a arm warmer like sleeve.


1st aid kit for Pro races have a mesh sleeve that holds bandages in place while they ride on, after crashes .

Which is why, when it comes to fit of a product that varies so widely from brand to brand and model to model, your recommendations are nearly useless.
