What is name of this gt equipment 2 protect frame?

A friend who owns a bike shop lost a front wheel to my Haro Escape A 7.9 that I'd left there for a new inner tube. He told me he'd have a compatible one in a few days but wanted me to have this as a gift for my troubles. He called it a frame basher? or something like that. He knows I like old (1980s Taiwan made) GTs; he's built & sold me a few - and told me he thought this was mid - old school. He said it was to protect the bottom of the frame from hard landings when mountain riding or racing.

What is this called? I've tried googling frame basher & frame protector but nothing similar comes up.
What year/period is it from?

Thanks

Hard to read in the pic, but they called it a Bolt-on Bashguard.

Probably before any chainring bashguards were called bashguards. I'm curious if Rock Rings were ever called bashguards, but it seems like calling them bashguards came later.

Probably won't mount on 1988 or later GT MTBs due to chainstay spacing. Actually probably won't work on earlier ones either cuz the frame tubing will be too big for that clamp.

So, I'm with DMC, probably only suitable for BMX frames.
