Fork travel and axle to crown

Hello,

I am looking at 29er suspension forks and learned there are some of them featuring adjustable traveling, 80/100/120, like Marzocchi 320 LCR 29.

I see the fork length is 506.5 mm. I would need a smaller fork length, more in the 490-500 range, and my question is: by adjusting the travel to 80 mm, will I get a shorter fork (my intention would be to lower the handle bar and generally increase the fork angle).

The 506.5 mm a/c at 100mm travel would change to 496.5mm a/c at 90mm travel and 486.5mm a/c at 80mm travel.

Your head tube angle will get about 1 degree steeper for every 20mm you lower it. So will your seat tube angle. Frame reach will grow a bit.

Most forks are adjustable internally 20mm, sometimes requiring the purchase of spacer, sometimes not. Some are adjustable "on the fly" but are heavy, expensive, tend to have more mechanical problems, and have inferior dampening properties. They've become less popular recently.

Yes. Cobba explained correctly.

FWIW, 6.5mm is not much axle-to-crown difference. You might not even need to shorten it.
