first of all trunk mounted bike racks are bad, unless you putting light xc/road bikes on it. second if you were to put a heavy bike on it it looks like either it will break of will go through the trunk(happened to me a long time ago)

I'm going to put a trek 6500 on it...I have a '97 mustang so I dont know if I can put a hitch on it without drilling holes and what not

If you are bent on getting a rear rack I wouldn't buy that walmart rack. I've tried the cheaper racks and like a dept store bike- they last about 1 season then you throw them away because it broke. Go ahead and spend a little more and get a decent rack. I think of it this way- I hate to scratch my bike if I can avoid it and a fall off a cheap rack at 50 miles per hour would be quite a mighty scratch. (experience talking)

Saris has decent cheaper racks. The bones model seems to be the better of the trunk mounted racks. The prices go down from there.
Look at the Bones 2. $120.00 USD

If the job is damaging your bike and/or car, I would say this is the unit. Seriously, i wouldn't consider putting a Trek 6500 on a cheap rack like that. You are asking for trouble. At the least get the Saris. I have a Sportworks Mod series hitch rack. It costs a bit more but hitch racks are the only way to go.

You can get a`bone 3 for $100US on ebay. I had 3 bikes on my rack last weekend, and it was as sturdy as a mule. So I'd spend the extra cash and get one of those :D

The cheap racks that have the plastic piece where the bars come together sometimes break. The all steel ones like the Allen racks hold great. I have a four bike model,it's solid as a rock.
