Steerer tube issues

Hi I put new Marzocchi dirt jam comp forks (not great I know) on my bike. They were to replace RST Gila's. When I put the marzocchi's on it seems that the steerer tube is too narrow for the frame. This leaves some play in them. Any ideas on how to fix?

Did you take the crown race off the old fork and put it on the new fork?

Did you tighten the top cap bolt before tightening the stem bolts?

Measure both steerer tubes, to see if its other issues. I just replaced mine. Know your size before purchasing. Any pic?
