Do I need rim tape for tubeless ready rims?

Depends if the store/person installed it previously. From what I understand bikes are rarely sold with rim tape installed.

Yes for tubeless ready mountain rims. I know this is mtb forum, but just FYI some road tubeless are designed so there are no internal spoke holes and rim tape isn't used.

You'll likely need tape, valves, sealant and tubeless ready tires. An air compressor will be helpful for setting the beads.

tubeless ready usually indicates that a permanent plastic is installed around the rim and tape is not needed

For tubeless ready rim, tape is needed. For UST rim, tape is not needed.

In other words, if you can see the spoke holes then tape.

Or if there is anti-friction tape over spoke holes, then remove and tape.
