FS for 1000$

My cousin wants to get a full suspension bike. His budget is 1000 maybe a bit more. He wont’ do anything major on it, no big jumps, but bike needs to take the abuse since it’s going to be is only bike. What is his best option? Personally I told him to get a DJ hardtail, for now, but he wants FS……..

thanks for replies. I'm not to familiar with iron horse and not sure about it's reputation, Haro and Specialized FSR on the other hand are definitely good options. Keefer, do you have any specific model in mind? Haro does not post prices on their site.

I would take iron horse over haro. They are generaly really great value. I also test rode a KHS xc204 before3 decided it was worth the extra cash for the 604, but the 204 seemed quite nice, just a bit heavy.

1k won't buy you a great FS bike, but these days it will buy you something more the half-way decent.

The Jamis Dakar Sport weighs in around $1000, and should compare similarly to the other bikes listed.

If he's looking for something slightly longer travel, there's also the Dakar XLT. I'm not sure the MSRP on it.

Thanks for clarification Mael. Dirtbike, we are talking about bikes within a 1000 dollar budget, not a budget of a pro. racer... Almost any brand has someone racing for it, and i'm sure they provide great bikes for their teams, but what they offer to general public (mongoose for example) is a totally different product.

P.S. I wasn’t saying that iron horse makes bad bikes, just said that I was not familiar with the brand.

How tall is he? Here's a sweet Iron Horse FS for less than a grand. It's an 03, but I'd get it if it fit me. And I lived in the states. And needed another bike. Click me, it's near the botton of the page

Iron Horse is a decent brand. I'd seriously look at Specilized's offerings at that pricepoint.

for the haro the x1 is under 1000 and the x2 is around $1200 but it is well worth it to save up the extra $200 to get the x2. Both are good bikes for the money.
