I'm considering bringing a bike with me from the US this summer. Does anyone know of any problems or issues that might come up when I enter Ireland with it? Will they ask for any additional fees? What would be a good price/performance way of shipping the bike - any particular bag or case you recommend? Do I need to contact the airline in advance to bring the bike or do I just bring it to the check-in desk?

I'm leaning towards a Santa Cruz Blur 4x or the Specialized Enduro SX/SX Trail. If you have any comments on the bikes, feel free to chip in. I plan to do a bit of everything on 'em (but not very extreme DH).

I would suggest buying a bike case, and taking it on the plane with you. ON most domestic flights they will charge at least $50 each way to take it. But i had heard that there is no fe on international flights?

Any suggestions on a good price/performance bike case? I won't be bringing my bike on planes more than once in a while.

hey,

we took three bikes to europe last summer. we just packed them up in bike boxes for the way over, and on the way back they were basically just in plastic bags and it worked out fine. I don't think i'd reccommend the bag if you can get a bike box.

We also used bike boxes for 2 flights within europe and it was fine.

Yeah like bbeans said, if you're rarely going to take it on a plane, i wouild suggest going to te lbs and asking for a bike box, like the ones bikes come to them in.
