I know that when I first joined this forum, besides knowing the standard trek, specialized, etc. I had no idea what other brands were out there. So to make it somewhat easier on some of the people starting out, I will make a list of respectable MTB brands. If I have missed any please post them here so I can update. Would an admin or staff please sticky this (if not then... ehhhh)

I thought I was on your ignore list.

Nearly every manufacturer makes a mountain bike these days so I have no idea where you're getting this "road" only bit. As far as reputations go one only has to look as far as the product reviews over on https://www.mtbr.com/ to get a fair understanding of what's good. The OP deserves more than a list of popular brands as there are dozens of quality frame builders that you folks left off.
This page has a large number of links as well, but it's a bit more condensed

In all fairness, there are some good European brands that are not sold (or at least on a very limited basis) in the US, that haven't gotten any comments at mtbr. Naturally, I still agree that mtbr is an excellent site to look up comments on. The quality of the reviewers vary quite a bit, but the bikes that have gotten many reviews are probably not far off.

I agree fully with the comment on the Euro bikes that aren't well represented on MTBR. People need to realize that Bike Forums is an international site and that there's more to it than the US and Canada. The reviews on MTBR are fairly easy to weed out. If you see someone typing in all caps and using AOL'ese chances are the person's septic tank is a bit full (if you catch my drift)

Don't beat yourself over that, Raiyn. If us Europeans would be as good at sharing info as you Americans and Canadians, things would be much different on this site as well as mtbr (in terms of representing an international perspective).

Perhaps, but they do have tips for safe riding, proper bike sizing, and manuals (although they are regrettably of the "owner's" type). Huffy has been around for a long time. They may be crap, but they're classic crap.

Now, lets see if you haters can guess whose first bike was a Huffy Pro Thunder 20"?
