My first "Real" bike is a Scott 970!!!

Greetings all, just bought a new Scott Aspect 970 yesterday and i'm in awe. Almost purchased the next one up with hydraulic brakes but i did not like the neon green paint job. This is the first bicycle i buy that did not come from say, Walmart, Kmart or JC Penney etc. It was between the Scott and a Trek DS1, but the Trek is from an established LBS that has been around for decades (and they act like it) and the Scott is from the new cycle shop in town and they REALLY go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Looks good! Hopefully you can see the quality in the rides over the department stores.

Oh the ride quality was eminent from the get-go, really it took me by surprise in how she handles as compared to my walmart bike. Tires are kinda noisy on the pavement once you get going at a good clip and those brakes are just fantastic. I am very pleased.

Congrats! Now that you've tasted the difference, you will never go back to Wally World. Nice bike. Why are you sitting here reading posts when you could be out riding????

Thank you everyone for the warm reception and compliments. Turning 48 next month I am surprised at how I took to being back on a bike, I have an Academy Ozone 3000 RS that I started riding to work, as home is only 2 miles away, and already I can feel the difference. I went with a Scott because in Laredo all the trails are Mountain Bike types being ranches all around here and what initially took me by surprise is how BIG these bikes are.

I'm 5'7" in sneakers and my Scott is the small frame sized one, the next one up which I almost bought was a medium, the Scott 960, but the small one felt a bit better. The tires are massive compared to my road bike and the suspension is really quite compliant up front. I will take it back after a month of riding for her initial tune-up at Twin City Cyclery where I bought it. I can already see a seat upgrade is in my future.

All in all, I am very excited and next month is the annual Zapata,TX to Laredo,TX bike run (about 45 miles between the cities) and I am entered in my age group. It will be my first Gran Fondo and all I want is to finish hopefully in 4 to 5 hours so I am not struggling towards the back. Riding a couple miles every day to and from work, as well as longer rides on the weekend, I hope I can manage.

Again thanks you everyone for the support and compliments. I hope to learn much from you all.
