Rock Hopper Info and instruction

I’m new to the forum. Hello. I have a Specialized Rockhopper FS. I don’t remember the year. I’m guessing about 15-20 years ago?? Before I took delivery, I had them change out the shifting mechanism from twist grip to Shimano Delore LX assemblies, Specialized Speed Zone Cyclocomputer, rear rack, different handle bars, handle bar stem, cat eye light. I bought this bike thinking I would use it when I would go camping or off roading. Put a few miles on it then stored it in my shed. I wanted to start riding so I got it out of my shed. It was dusty, so I wash it up and it still looks good. I notice the right fork shock was not working properly. It won’t hold air. I took the dust cap off and noticed the little rubber seal that you put the air into had fallen in the shock. I removed the snap ring, removed the cap, then tipped the bike over to get the little rubber valve out that fell inside the shock tube and lost what it looks like, some oil? First can anyone tell me what year my bike is, then tell me where I can find a seal kit and that little eraser looking air inlet seal for my (Specialized, Future, FS, Shock, Sport, made in the USA, shock) and what kind of oil, weight and amout should I use. Also, is there a manual, schematics, directions and website for repairs? All information would be appreciated. Thanks

If it’s 15-20 years old, probably out of luck for fork parts. Pictures would help here, as well as specific brand/model and then probably a call to a Specialized dealer.

What kind of shock is it? Brand and model?
post some pics of the shock and the bike.

My understanding is this shock was made by Rock Shox, model FUTURE for Specialized. I'm guessing I only need the rubber insert for the air neddle and the "O" ring that goes around the aluminum cap. It won't hold air in the right shock and a very slow leak of air in the left shock. There is a plastic duster cap, snap ring at the top, a aluminum plunger with a rubber insert to push the air needle in. If someone could explain how to post photo's I would oblige. Thanks for answering my post.

YES, pretty close, I don't remember the caps looking like that, they were flat plastic. I have photos but they won't let me post them? They say I have to 10 post. How do I get 10 post if they won't let me post? Being the license sticker states the year as 1995, I have to guess that's the bike year???

It has 3 gear sprockets in front and 7 sprockets in the rear. So If I'm right this is a 21 speed bike?
And it use to have twist grip shifter, I them change that over to Shimano.

OK, so what you have is the Specialized Future Shock fork, and it is probably an early- to mid-90s model. This fork is essentially a Rock Shox Mag 21 with slightly different lowers.

So if you want to look for information on working on this fork, search for Rock Shox Mag 21.

I would ask in places like the “Classic and Vntage” forum here on Bike Forums, and “Vintage, Retro, Classic” forum over at mtbr.com.

i had a Future Shock back in the late 90s. It was my first suspension fork. It was already well used when I got it in 1998. They were pretty good forks for the early 90s..

Good luck. I will be interested to know what you find.

I'm confused? I have photos to post but they won't let me until I have 10 post. How do I get 10 posts if they won't let me post? :bang:
