1x11 suggestions for Kona Unit

I have a 2014 Kona Unit singlespeed. Love it, but if it had gears, it'd see A LOT more use where I live right near the mountains, and my son will ride it too--he's outgrown his "starter" hardtail.
I'm sold on 1x11 on my gravel bike, so thinking of taking the Unit to my LBS and seeing what it'll cost to convert the Unit to 1x, and what they'd suggest. I'm not too mechanically inclined, or that knowledgeable about components (I'll have LBS do the work) so would love any thoughts anyone has on how to do it fairly cheaply, but...decently...
If it gets too pricey, then I figure I'd be better off keeping it ss (it IS a crazy fun ss bike after all), and put my money towards something new for Junior.

Kona makes a dropout with derailleur hanger specifically for converting the Unit:

It's in the Kona Parts store for $30

Of course you'll also need a rear wheel that has a hub with a cassette carrier; but keep your SS wheel so you cab revert back someday if you want to.

Copy the Unit X, best guess.

Surly sells their SS mountain bikes using a free hub wheel and a spacer set. Did Kona? Otherwise you’ll want another rear wheel.

for shifting, I’ve had two NX bikes now and like it pretty well. Anything north of that will be great

Thanks guys! See, I wasn't sure if I'd need a new rear wheel--shows ya what I know
I do want to be able to convert it back to ss at some point. I'll go to LBS and see what this might cost and see if it's worth it, vs. spending the money towards another new/used already geared hardtail.

I believe the Kona may have that setup too. This is a closeup of the 2015 Unit hub - - is that a standard carrier? Is yours like that pbass? If so, you may be in luck.

Yep--looks basically like that (mine's a 2014).
