Need your opinion: SRAM 10 speed shifter with 9 speed system

Hello everybody!
I've been slowly upgrading my old 2x9 speed and now that my SRAM gripshifts have worn out and their grips have become rather nasty, I am looking for replacement shifters, triggers this time.
My question is as follows: since I have a SRAM X9 9 speed derailleur and cassette and it is very hard to find SRAM 2x9 shifters that are also matchmaker compatible, I figured maybe I could use a 10 speed shifter from SRAM, for example, an X7, X9 or X0. After all, SRAM shifters have the same cable pull (as far as I understand) and I could simply adjust my gears so that the derailleur ignored the extra click and I wouldn't drop the chain accidentally. Also, that would provide with a window of opportunity for future upgrades.
How do you think? Could it work? Has anybody tried anything like that?

I am pretty sure this will not work. SRAM 9 and 10 speed mtb shifters do not pull the same amount of cable per shift. 9 pulls ~4.0mm per shift, 10 pulls ~3.1mm per shift.

+1. It won't work.
