The LBS predicament
so the old lbs question. i do use them for all my repairs and misc. goods like $50-100 month prob but in the process of buidling up an older ride and lookin at stuff like forks-cranks-etc.
i know i would feel bad when its time for a tune up and i show up with a ride with $600 or so in new parts.

You should never feel guilty for wanting to fix up a bike yourself. Go for whatever is cheapest, in my opinion. They can't expect to keep customers if they get all whiney/whatever over you not buying from them. Honestly, unless you are really good friends with them, they would probably never remember the parts you had on the bike the last time it was in for the tune up.

Yea, I know the people at my LBS really well, So i mostly get my stuff from them, but they give me a good deal anyways, close to the internet price on the stuff. So I dont mind the extra 5 or 10 here and there to help support them..Maybe thats just me, but i like the fact that i can go in there, they know me personally, and they help me out all the time, and usually dont charge me for stupid stuff..so for me, unless it was some rockin deal, I usually stick to my LBs..

I have the same thoughts as you do. I sold an owner of 2 LBSs a bunch of home theater stuff from where I work. Yes he got a deal and he has since taken very good care of my needs. I know how he marks up his stuff but some things even with a good discount still cant come anywhere close to some internet prices. I have no problem paying for his advice and his services. A good shop can save you hundreds of dollars by helping you buy it right the first time and they want you to tell your friends about their great customer service. I will only buy on the internet when I save more than 20% past his discounted price.
