tried an inexpensive chain tensioner
I don't really have "chain slap" with this bike but when it's very muddy w that especially sticky gooey kind of mud I'll get "chain suck" so I was thinking this kind of thing might add just enough tension to keep it from getting sucked up between the chain stay & chain ring. but it was just too noisy to even test. guess I'll just have to keep that chain clean. shud be OK cuz I try to stay out of mud & that especially sticky gooey stuff is even more rare. took some extra time to clean that small ring. I suspect any buildup of grease & crud would likely help hold sticky mud as well & a clean ring would hold less mud

A clutch derailleur is one of the great inventions for mtbs. How many speeds is that wheel?

Chainsuck indicates a worn chainring. That tensioner would facilitate chainsuck more than it would ****** it.
And that tensioner forces your chain to be longer. |
That will probably help if you are dropping chains over rough ground, but I don’t think it will do much about chain suck.
