Snap-on bikes

I got this bike at a yard sale today cheap, are they any good? who made them? It has a sticker on it saying 2011 I think that is when it was made.

No good bikes had a quill stem in 2011, those went away mostly before the turn of the century. Plastic pedals and rivetted crankset are other dead give aways that it is junk.

The only thing Snap On about that bike is the sticker. That said, it beats walking.

Walmart will charge you about 150 bucks for a bike like that. How many snap on sockets do you think that would buy? Honestly, what is a company thinking about their image when they put their sticker on a piece of ... machinery like this?

If you paid $5, you got ripped off. Even with COVID pricing.

The frames looks a lot like a department store Mongoose labeled bicycle I’ve seen. Heavy, heap and not well made. But interesting Snap-On would put their name on it. Even the GM Dinaili bikes were better.

but what a conversation piece.

Fine for riding around the neighborhood. If you take it much on any serious trails, you'll kill it, and when you do you may not come out of it too well either.

^^^^This.

That is bike shaped object.

Oldsledz 10-16-20 06:19 PM

5.00 is what i paid for it, I thought it looked cheaply made but I go taken in by the Snapon name thinking they wouldn't put their name on junk.

Not a huge deal here, but they should have paid you $5 to haul it off lol.

Take off what you can and use it for the next bike you get.

it's pretty common for companies to make "promotional" bikes available, but it's usually breweries and the like that don't care if their name is associated with a cheap bike. they just want the image. usually, it's a beach cruiser with a beer logo on it that implies "drink beer and chill out on the super classy bicycle" which is probably a bad idea. but the person who decided to put Snap On on a POS bike was hopefully fired shortly after that.

sell it to a Snap-On Tool exec.

You paid $5 more than it's worth.

WannaGetGood 11-08-20 10:24 PM

I died a little inside looking at this.

Rogerogeroge 11-12-20 10:05 PM

I would NOT ride the bike like it is. That stem looks like it's pulled up way past the minimum insertion mark.

Darth Lefty 11-12-20 10:12 PM

Neither would I. Someone might see me

projects appropriate for this bike:
  • make it functional and give to a homeless person
  • sell it to a scrap yard
  • lake jumping bike
  • zero-risk errand-running bike.

LOL...well played!!! But seriously the OP can maybe clean it up, get the rust off, tune everything up, get it road worthy and donated to a church, charity or deserving person who would otherwise be without a bike. Granted I wouldn't try mountain biking on it, but for street use it should be okay, once its cleaned and tuned up.

Some may consider the two bikes I have at the moment to be junky and yes I've owned a GMC Denali road bike...it was the only thing available for the price I could afford.

Funny response though! Cheers!
