Box Four / Shimano Compatibility
I converted my used GT Aggressor Expert to a 1x8 and love it. However, the rear shifter won't shift up to the next gear in the middle of the cassette on one click. I have to upshift twice and down once. If I adjust he cable tension, it does the same thing - but on the downshift.
New cable, new chain. Rebuilt the shifter with no change. Clean drivetrain. The last time this happened (on another bike) , the only fix was a new shifter. I have hydraulic brakes and don't want the shifter gear window getting in the way of the brakes. I don't need /want it - I never look at it anyway. Soooo ... long story short (too late!!) is the Box Four 8 speed shifter compatible with my Shimano rear mech? |
No.
It's amazing what you can find on the manufacturers website. https://boxcomponents.com/products/b...shift-groupset |
Thanks prj71...
I know manufacturer's "say" something doesn't work - but sometimes they do. I was just wondering if anyone had every tried it. I'm having difficulty finding an 8 speed Shimano shifter (without the window) that doesn't cost more than the bike. |
8 speed Shimano is going slowly away... I think they are down to only EZ-Fires and one shifter pod, and the different part numbers are just different finishes for different groupsets.
That said, the indicator should not interfere with the brake lever. The pod sits below the brake perch and the indicator goes through the gap between the master cylinder and handlebar. This is not 8 speed nor hydraulic, but you get the idea: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...785a14a115.jpg |
You can get an Altus M310 or Acera M315 RapidFire Plus shifter that will work fine. They do have gear windows, but if appearance is that important, then you’ll have to pay for it with a shifter from the 90’s.
