Rocky Mountain Element

Is Rocky Mountain a good brand. I have a 1996 rocky mountain element that I am wondering about. The rims and shifters are currently not stock, but i do still have the original parts. What would this bike be worth?

Yes they are good respected brand. But that bike looks a bit old.

Two fiddy. Maybe tree hundred.

The Canucks would love it but I think it is a neat piece of history and if I didn't already have plenty of bikes might consider adding it to the family. I love that rear derailleur it is bomb proof. Some say ugly but honestly it works well and isn't as boxy as the previous generation of XT RDs which work fine.

Full suspension bikes from that era are a tough sell. The geometry and technology of trail bikes have changed so much since then that most people aren't interested in an older bike for technical riding, and the suspension makes it pretty clunky as a street bike or gravel grinder, for which a steel rigid MTB from 1996 would be in demand. For example, a Rocky Mountain Cardiac from 96 would probably sell more quickly now than this one will. It may take a little while to find the right buyer who appreciates it for what it was in 1996. And I would expect the fork needs an overhaul?

That said, it's an interesting bike. It looks like it didn't make it into the 1996 catalog (at least the one linked on the Rocky Mountain website). There's an Element with that frame color, but no "T.O." option, and yours seems to have at least an upgraded fork and brakes relative to the catalog specs for the non-T.O. The 97 catalog has an Element T.O., but with the new 97 frame colors.
