SRAM derailleur for 36/22?

I found a similar question to mine in the archives, but am looking for a little clarifiication.

I replaced the 39/26 crank on my 29er with a 36/22. I had to set the original SRAM X9 2x10 front derailleur a little high to prevent it hitting the chainstay, so now I occasionally drop the chain if I don't shift carefully. In an older thread about Shimano components, I saw a suggestion to switch to SRAM X0 or X5, but it's not clear to me that those will give me more room then the X9. Can anybody confirm that? I can also go with any non-SRAM components that will work.

Also, maybe I'm just being dumb, but I can't tell if I want to use the low-mount clamp or high-mount clamp for these derailleurs. That is, does the low-mount clamp allow me to place the derailleur lower on the frame, or does it move the derailleur higher on the frame because it is mounted lower on the derailleur? Not obvious to me from the pictures I've found.

Much thanks for any guidance!
