It could work, but I have no idea what the difference in leverage on the fluid is between shimano and hayes levers. If you do try it, make sure you get all of the DOT fluid out of the hayes lever before bleeding it.

No dice. You'll rot the seals on one or the other guaranteed and that won't be pretty

Let me guess your situation. You have HFX-9s and saw the attractingly afforadble price of LX/XT calipers and rotors. You dont want to buy the levers and accept the realistic price of those brakes complete, so you want to use your existing Hayes levers.

I do believe you're correct on this one.

close, but no cigar as they say . looking at purchasing a bike which has HFX 9's on it standard, however i want to run the Shimano XT wheelset. From research the XT wheelset does not like Hayes for some reason and squeals everywhere. if this is true or not i dont know.but i read it in more than one location. Also , this wheelset requires the shimano centerlock rotors. Given that bikes and parts here cost a fortune, decided to look into maybee running the shimano calipers with the Hayes levers ( beleive it or not the levers alone are $200 here) but if i cant ill run the full shimano setup.

That's a load of crap. Calipers don't care what rotors they clamp so long as they're the right diameter. Notice I didn't say thickness as they're all nominally 2mm thick

It's still a giant load of steaming crap

It won't be an issue, but if it makes you feel better there's an adapter that will allow you to run Hayes rotors on the the Shi*No hubs

I'm running Avid Juicy 5's on the XT M765 centerlock rotor right now, works fine. My Hayes Mechanicals don't mind them either.
