Epic Ride in the North East??

Hi,

My mate who lives in Seattle just rode Devil's Gulch:
http://www.dirtworld.com/trails/trail.asp?id=273&trail_name=Devil's%20Gulch%20Mountain%20Bike%20Trail

I am in training for a road bike century and am just logging road miles until the big day, but afterwards I want to drive somewhere in the NOrth east and have a bit of a day mission like this one. Anyone got any suggestions for a ride like this in CT, MA, VT, NH or upper NY? I am in Hartford, CT.

The Narraganset Bay Wheelmen have a few. Southeastern Mass and R.I. though.

Just Google New England cetury ride. Also search the forums. Try Charles river Wheelmen.

Sorry, I wasn't really clear ... I am logging road miles and am sick of it and want an epic mountain bike ride once I am done with my century ( which is one of the ones put on by the Narraganset Bay Wheelmen ... good advice cheers !)

The ride I linked to is a XC mountain biking mission, almost 3000 feet of climing I guess over about 12 miles then a great descent, you can make it last all day apparently. I was thinking in NH or VT there had to be something similar... Anyone have an incredible all day ride in New England that they can recommend?

You could easily ride all day at

1. Mount Snow, VT

If you did two climbs from the base to the peak in one day and took time to explore other trails on the way down I would consider that a solid day. I usually do one climb in the AM and one after lunch. You can throw in some additional climbing if you still feel saucy. You could even ride the lifts if you had to :(

2. Killington, VT

same as above.

3. Kindom Trails, East Burke, VT

100 miles of trails advertised. Some of it not worth riding but most of the singletrack is sweet. I would suggest trying to ride all the singletrack available in one day.

These three spots are very well known and certainly no secret, but they still provide great and adequate terrain to ride a full day.

I am sure there are many more in NH and that the Locals keep secret also.

This looks like a good bet. Am googling images of it and it looks like what I'm after. Thanks!

The Rhode Island North-South trail 77 miles, originally a hiking trail, now for hiking, Mt. Bikes, and horses. Mostly off road with some pavement connecting them when needed.
NO way you can do it in a day. You will miss some trail markers and end up in a boulder field once in a while. Waterfalls, bridges , farms, historic sights, old mill waterwheels etc. etc. A small covered bridge just for hikers and bikers in the middle of nowhere. Rock cliffs to carry the bike up, swamps etc.
I have tons of pictures, I did a few trips on weekends to complete it. Many people camp along the way.

If you take the time to look at the photos you probably will get hooked. # different "albums"

This sounds great too, I will definitely check this one out. Be great to overnight it.

Links to the album wouldn't work for me, asked me to sign in to yahoo, so I did, clicked on the link again and had the same thing... bugger

Thanks for the idea!

You're very welcome, it is a fantastic ride.

Here’s a link to a description of the trail and it has links to some maps.

I did 10 to 20 miles sections at a time depending on the terrain and then looped back to the car on the road for faster return. I did not hurry, we did a lot of sightseeing and I have many more pictures than just these

Here are some different links to get to the Pictures, I did this a different way. This should work.

Look closely at the big bridge, you can see my friend up on the bridge (which is the trail) waving !
