w00t! Got my bike :)

So I went to my LBS today and picked up my new Giant NRS 3. I love riding it, and I have the urge to be on it all the time. Unfortunately, I don't have a light set or any friends that are willing to ride with me at night, hehe.
I took a decent ride on it today, but I haven't really gotten a chance to take it offroad yet. I can't wait to see how it handles.
I'm still getting used to the clipless pedals, but i'm doing alright with them. I can click out pretty quickly with my right foot, but my left is being a bit stubborn. I still have to get it into my head that twisting my foot hard enough isn't going to break them.
All in all, I'm totally psyched. I'll probably spend the entire day tomorrow riding. I really need to get a road helmet though... at this point I only have a full face in anticipation for some fairly heavy offroad use.

I envy all that are getting new bikes. I was going to buy a Spec. Stumpjumper but decided against it to get a nice steel hardtail and well im short about 200 dollars for it and its going to be a month or two. Oh well i guess my trusty Mongoose Pro with 2,500 miles on it is doing all right off road, sigh...

Well congrats on the new bike hope ya enjoy it :)

Thankya, and don't forget, it's not all about the bike, it's about the rider :)

Congrats on the new ride. Enjoy it to the fullest.
So, what are you upgrading first?(jk):D

Actually, that would have to be the brakes. It's got V's on there now, but I'm thinking about getting discs for it sometime down the road. I'll have to see how these V's work first though :)

i would stick with the vs...chances are they are decent v breaks and most disk breaks have fragile rotars and tend to bend and a good pair of v breaks will stop as well as most mechanical or hyrolic disks disk breaks are very expensive too with the wheel and the actual break and all

Hmm, that's good to know, I never really thought about that.

The performance gain of disc brakes is worth it. That guy doesn't know what he is talking about when he says they are fragile. It takes quite a bit of punishment or abuse to bend a rotor. But they are expensive. If you don't all ready have disc hubs you will have to get those and rebuild your wheels aswell as buy disc brakes, which are quite pricey. I would get a set of the hope mini's for your ride..More than enough stoping power, great price, and there Hope's!!

I agree...once you've gone with disc brakes you'll never want to go back. They require much less maintenance and the stopping power is phenomenal. While you don't need to get Discs right away I would definitely recommend them for a future upgrade.

Yeah, price isn't a really big problem. I've been upgrading my car for some time now, and the price difference between car parts and bike parts is increadible. IE: 40 dollars for a shimano shifter for my bike vs. 300+ dollars for a new shifter assembly for my car. :)

Congrats w/ your new bike! I just helped a friend of mine buy an XTC SE-2. It's got some nice parts on it (maybe the same as your bike??) and weighs in at 25lbs..not bad for how much she paid for it. Stick w/ your V's for now...cost of upgrading shouldn't be that bad cuz i assume your components are similar to the XTC SE-2 meaning you have disc tabs on the frame and your wheel set already has disc hubs on them. Move to a disc if you feel it's necessary. I would consider it myself, buy that would mean giving up my CrossMax wheels for that and probably adding more weight to my bike (v's are the still lightest it believe). Get out there and RIDE!!!!!! :)

Yeah, I do have mounting areas on the frame, but I don't have disc ready hubs unfortunately. I've been riding almost every day, but mostly just short rides around town. I don't have a riding partner yet and I'm leary of going on trails alone, I don't think it's a very good idea.
