Chain Length

Hi
I just replaced my drive train, originally 11/50t and 38t chainring, now 10/52t and 34t chainring. I sized the chain based on SRAM's guide, however the chain length came out the same length as my old drive train, the chain looks a bit tighter than before, nothing is rubbing, but not sure if this is correct or not. It goes in to all gears fine when on the stand, but skips when ridden, but this may be the b adjustment needs tweaking. If the chain is to short, even by a link could it cause shifting issues?

Derailleur appears more vertical.

Was the cassette replaced as well? That’s usually the first culprit when a new chain skips.

New chain, cassette, and chainring.

I would double check that the cassette is on tight enough. Also, if you went from 11/50 to 10/52, does that mean you put a new cassette body on your hub? The HG one and the XD might be very slightly different in size.

If I were you, I'd release tension in the derailleur cable and set it up again as if it were a new derailleur install. You will probably end up slightly adjusting the high and low screws as well as the B screw.

Also, for photography of the chain length, it's more clear in your lowest gear, not highest.

Is the offset of your new chainring the same?

Probably not the problem since, I assume, the bike shifted well before the change, but I'd check the derailleur hanger and insure it is parallel to the wheel if you have everything apart.

I replaced everything, hub, cassette, chainring (same offset), derailleur, chain and a new hanger. I've readjusted the b adjustment which seems to have resolved it. Taking it for a proper ride tomorrow, so will see how it goes.
