Sure, but with all the fertilizer around, your frame might grow two sizes...

I ride in the rain all of the time (on trails, and to and from work); the singletrack by my house is a lot of fun when it's nice and muddy. And my bikes are still fine...just take care of them.

On road(for commuting): Constantly
Off road: I avoid it as much as possible. I prefer not to rip up the trails

For off-road in the rain I usually stick to wide and hard packed trails. Not as dangerous and it does less damage. On the local single track many riders have been ruining the trail, leaving huge ruts especially after the rain. Give the trails a day or two to dry off. On the road, go nuts. Just watch for painted areas. The paint tends to be slippery when you're braking on it.

I learned that one the hard way a few years back. Heck even when dry you'll want to avoid making sudden moves on them. (Learned that one the hard way too)

As others have said, be careful to choose the trails you ride on wisely and don't tear them up. The worst thing I see is riders riding around puddles in the middle of singletrack. For the love of all things green and good, it's a mountain bike, ride it through the puddle/mud. Just be sure that, if you get the bike dirty, you at least rinse it off and clean it up right after the ride.

And remember, even though you're moving, lightning's still bad news.
