tires for the slippery stuff

It's time to buy new shoes for the baby. My Kona Cinder Cone Rocks, but I have already worn down the minimal tread that came on the stock tires. I replaced my front tire with a Hutchison Mosquito, but my rear tire loses traction whenever the trails get wet. I'm not thrilled with the Mosquito so I'm looking for anyone who has any suggestions for a tire that will help me stick to wet roots and rocks, but still roll well through tight singletrack.

Has anyone tried going wider in the rear like 2.2 or larger?

thanks

Two words of advice: Maxxis Ignitor.

My 2 cents,

I like rear treads that are bars\paddles across the tire.
I doubt fatter would help, narrow will press harder in on a smaller space.
Bigger means less pressure over larger space.
I don't run the same type\size or tread front\rear.

I tend to sit for traction, my bike is light and the seat is high so this isn't a problem.
Learning to position weight for traction is important, I often climb loose gravel with a semi-slick rear, -it's mostly technique.

I can't really recommend a tire, my 2 current running faves are freebees and not on the market anymore.

Race K lite Mr.Clean 2.06 heavy bar tread rear, 2.30 Joe Murray A:\Drive front.

Maxxis Ignitor or Hutchinson Mosquito

Been riding then for a while in the tropics with no problems, personally preffer the Mosquitos for the real nasty muddy stuff for their ability to shed mud. The Ignitors work well but can clog in the nasty stuff.
