New Headsets?

Howdy all,

as I mentioned in another thread, the first thing I did when I got my new bike was to swap over the riser bar for a flat bar with barends.

My question is, now that the bar has no rise in it, should I have replaced the headset at the same time?

And more to the point, how do you really determine what headset to fit to a bike (as in length/angle etc)

There's so many choices, how do people decide which one to fit?

lets cut you off there...

you will need to replace the stem. The headset is all the bearings hidden in your steering tube.

As for length. They usually measure in mm ( I am from Canada, it may be ww to you since your from the land downu.... )

sorry that is way too pathetic

Your new setup will be slightly more stretched out with the flat bar- but if you use your bar ends it probably will be close to the original setup. You will need to replace the stem if your back gets fatigued. Put on a stem with a greater rise and a shorter length. Use your old stem as a comparison. Conversely if you feel your riding position is too upright then change the stem to a longer and lesser rise....

Basically just ride, it is trial and error for the first few times.

It was a nice attempt there codeman. I'm assuming your name is Cody as I too have gotten that nickname. Anyway....you may want to talk to your shop owner and see if you could maybe try out a few different stems to see which will fit before purchasing with the promise of actually buying one.

Cheers..... silly post lol. Realised when I looked at it again I had the wrong thing

Cool, I might leave it for a bit and just wait and see. I'm sore after most rides but that's because I'm unfit!
