I now fear dirtjumping, it's not the size of the jumps, it's me. I have somehow started landing on my back wheel when landing on the other dj, this causes me to go into an uncontrolled manual and resulting in falling on my back. What am I doing wrong here? Am I pulling up too much? Leaning back too far? Help is appreaciated because a friend and I just found some sick new djs.

Thanks in advance.

Fix this fast, I did exactly that just once, it litterally never happened to me before, and I broke my ankle the first time I did it. Whats the chances of that?

Anyways I dont know what to say, maybe your keeping your legs locked stiff straight? That would cause it. If thats it, keep your legs slightly bent and pull your frame up towads your butt.

The first big time it happened to me my arm got ripped open. :(
I have been lifting the frame up, something just happens when I land. I was thinking about not pulling up when hitting the lip of the jump, but im not sure if that would make it better or worse.

That used to happen to me but what seems to help is once you get your front wheel over the lip loosen your knees a lot and absorb the lip with your back wheel...sorry I can't be of more help but that seems to work for me.

Actually for me, it sorta depends on the type of jump. If its one of those jumps where the lip is real steep, the gap is small, and the landing is steep, you must lift your rear up, and bring your front down. If its a jump that the lip isnt steep at all, the gap is big, the landing is almost flat, and you hit it going real fast and keep a ton of speed, i suggest doing what you said Madbiker, just go over the lip and sorta bring the bike into you at the lip of the jump. This will let you go fast, clear the landing, and stay alomost level in the air.

Ok thanks for the advice, I'll go try it tomorrow.

I just unweight the bike and the rear follows me up until its about level, so far so good. I don't really pull up off of dirt jumps typically, but I'm just trying to live, not get "big air".

When you go up in the air pull up and kick your back tire up, I get higher than all my friends and people I might at other dirt jumps. Just try and level yourself out and then just ride down the jump, that's what I do I have never fallen on my back, although I have fallen before lol.

if all else fails, applying the rear brake to lock up the rear wheel will pull the front down (note that this is different from lifting the back up though, if you know what i mean). Although this might primarily be a downhilling technique, you shouldn't really need to do this (it just looks cool :p )

I would guess that your legs are for the most part extended when in the air. Hit the lip of the jump and bring your legs in a bit- naturally your rear should lift. You will have more control. Try it on a small jump and over exaggerate it, then when comfortable nail your regular jump and flow through the landing. I would also practice on small one- jump it for smoothness, not height. hit the jump and try to land with both wheels at the same time. Like your in moto cross. It just seems like you need to get comfortable in the air. Everyone bails sometimes.

do you really think the bikeforums.net administrators have a raging mexican food habit? Just a thought lol.

madbiker555 09-29-05 08:37 PM

That was random.

I have problems matching my bike up with the landing if i don't keep myself "busy" in the air. Generally throwing a small whip or table top helps me keep the bike moving and i naturally set myself up for the landing. If i don't do that i usually scoop the rear of my bike up so high the tire hits my rear then set myself up for the landing. May not help you ,but that is what works for me=)

I fixed the problem today. :) I just unloaded the rear more. Thanks for helping.
