Suitable Brake Upgrade - Avid Single Digit 7

I have a 2005 Gary Fisher Marlin. I am contemplating replacing the brakes with Avid Single Digit 7 brakes and Speed Dial 7 levers ($89 at Pricepoint). Would these be a suitable upgrade over the stock brakes and levers? The stock brakes seem to have poor modulation, and don't work too well even in slightly muddy conditions. Thanks.

Yes - do it. They make a world of difference. I run Ti SD brakes and levers on all my V-brake hardtails. They adjust easily and stay adjusted.

Only complaint is that some people get a lot of "slop" of the calipers on the mounting bosses. An extra shim (washer) usually takes care of this freeplay however.
