new shocks for trek 8900 oclv mtn bike?

I have a 94-95 trek 9800 OCLV mtn bike. I know, I know it's old, but I still love the way it rides. Unfortunately, the judy xc shocks that have been on it since I got it, are shot. I need to replace the shocks, I'm mostly a climber, weigh 195, 5'10, i dont bomb down hill, but I am not slow downhiller either.

I would like to keep the price under 500. I'm not sure what shocks would work for me. the various bike shops have said I need a maximum of 80mm so as to not alter the ride quality so much of the bike. Seems like maybe the manitou skareb may work for me. But dont know if it will hold my weight. should also mention that I am still using v-brakes, so I need v-brake mounts on the fork. Any other recommendations?

thx

For XC and climbing, look at lightweight air forks like:

Marzocchi Marathon series
Fox F80RLT
Fox F80X

Most Manitou forks are too highly regarded around here.

By the way, what diameter head tube does the bike have?

Learn to spell "thanks". We don't take kindly to AOL'ese or TXTSPK around here
