perfect tires

I need to find the perfect tire for my conditions. I ride singletrack trails, and street. The singletrack i ride is in Missouri so it's all dirt, which varies in condition, up to a week after it rains it stays a slightly tacky mud type stuff, then the rest of the time it's dry and pretty loose if it's been ridden alot. For instance my tires i have now (Bontrager Earl) do quite well on the street and better on the single track when it's damp, when it's dry they have a tendency to lose lateral grip. I was going down a section of fast downhil singletrack the other day, hit a small jump landed with like 5 feet to go before the turn so i leaned and truend and my front tire and rear tire both slid sideways and i downed it going pretty fast. I don;t want that to happen, that hurts, my right butt cheek is miserable, i landed on a humped section of root when i fell and gave myself a bug deep tissue bruise to my cheek, and it hurts so i want tires that won' do that. And preferably tires 2.4 or bigger.

Now i was looking at Maxxis Minions, any thoughts?

2.4!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU NUTS! I HAVE 2.35'S AND IVE NEVER LOST CONTROL DUE TO TIRE SLIPPING OR W/E! But if you want to increase your tire size that much, check your frames and forks tire size capabilities. But, tires that big and heavy may change your control....

a bigger tire may not be the solution. a better gripping tire is the way to go. I dont know off hand any good street/singletrack tires. I use Panaracer Cinders2.25 and they do VERY well in all conditions but I dont ride streets. a Weirwolf does well on most conditions, rolls fast , and lasts quite a while even on pavement. its not a good cornering tire on sand if you dont lean your bike into the turns but may do well for what you want

I use Maxxis Highroller 2.5's for everything; Street, Dh, freeride, DJ, you name it. They work great in everything so far, but loose gravel. They suck in loose gravel so much, I feel unsafe when just cruising down my driveway.

Quit YELLING!
That and don't use AOL'ese on the forums. Not only does it make you look stupid, it's a great way to get on my bad side, nevermind being against forum guidelines.

this maybe a dumb question, but i don't know the answer.
my bike came with Alex TD-20 rims and i have kenda 2.35 tires.
If I wanted to get bigger tires will they fit on my rims?
or do i have to get wider rims?

Nokian NBX FR 2.3 or if you want a bit smaller tire the XC 2.2 version works as well. It is a great all around tire that works well in deep mud to dry hard packed and all the conditions inbetween.

Echo the Larsen TT recommendation; fast and grippy, never had a problem with it.

If you really want to grip corners, turn the tire around backwards on the front wheel; just make sure to put it back the right way when ya hit the street

Cheers
