Choosing a MTB: Please Help

Hi I am from Malta and presently I am riding a Bianchi 750 SF Mountain Bike. I am getting a new one and am trying to choose between a Trek 4900 and a Garry Fisher Tassajjara. I am quite a heavy rider (90 kilos) and I like to ride in the rough, however I use the bike on uneven roads mostly. Any suggestions please? Am I choosing along the correct line or not?
Thanks
David:confused:

Thanks for the reply.
Yesterday I saw the Kona Nunu which is also in the same price bracket and I quite liked it. The problem is that now I am more confused than before. The 2003 Kona Nunu has mechanical disk brakes front and back and a Marzocchi fork. The 2002 model has V-Brakes and Rockshok Judy TT. The 2003 model will arrive in about 2 months time. You think I should wait for it (if I decide on a Kona, that is!!)? I already made a mistake when buying my previous bike and I want to get it righjt this time.confused:

The more you can test ride the better choice you will make.

If it comes down to a tie, choose the best frame. If frames are equal choose the one with the best wheelset. If wheelsets are equal compare components. If you still can't decide you have a good problem.

Sudden death tie breaker is when your girlfriend picks the one you look hottest on.

It sounds to me like you should wait for the 2003 Kona to come out. Kona makes very nice bikes, and with the components you mentioned, I don't think you can go wrong.

By the way guys, here in Malta we do not get to test the bikes. we just get to see them in the shop, lift them and straddle them but no dealer lets us try actually ride the outside!!!!!!
