Yokota Bikes!
 

I bought a Yokota Gizzly Peak mountain bike a while ago. I want to know who actually makes this bike. Its definitely higher end. I tried google and I got really nothing revelant. Any body who or what makes it. I have not really ever seen anyone on a yokota.

I used to have the same bike back in the early 90's. It was a nice Columbus Taiwanese frame, at the time. The company is based in Japan (website if you want to run it through Babelfish).
The geometry was pretty standard with middle-of-the-road components. Nothing special about the bike. Mine was stolen, so I didn't get much of a chance to abuse it.

My first bike was a Yokota, full rigid cromo!!

Are they there own company?

I havn't seen those since the mide nineties!!

Sorry to dredge this up, but I'm in the midst of beginning a Yokota Yosemite into a drop bar fixie on slicks...

I had a Scott that was going to get the honors but this came into my hands via a friend. In college the hippie across the hall had a white Yosemite that I lusted after...thus the seed was planted...

Yokota Grizzly Peak
 

My dad bought a Yokota Grizzly Peak for me when I turned 14 in 1994, and I was riding that bike up until a moron ran a stop sign and ran the bike over on April 29, 2008. Amazingly, the frame is still okay. Up until it was run over, it was really a fun bike that held up quite well to the test of time and lots of riding on-road and off-road. With wide (2.25"), knobby tires it was fun on off-road trails. With skinnier hybrid tires, it made a fine commuter bike. I long ago lost track of how many times I'd crashed the thing, at least in incidents significantly more minor than being run over head-on by a 2006 Toyota 4Runner, so the thing is definitely well-constructed.

I'm actually now in the process of trying to put a value on it for the driver's insurance, and have run into a similar lack of information. I'd love to exchange info with you if you've found anything more, or if you have more questions for me. Bikepedia has a listing for the Grizzly Peak, but it describes a tandem bike. The nearest thing to what I have seems to be the Yosemite Pro.

I have a 1993 Yokota Yosemite Comp. I bought it new (yes I'm that old). I outfitted it with an XTR derailleur after eating the stock one in my spokes. The Bontrager weelsmith wheels are still intact after years of offroad and NYC commuting. In 95 I installed a Rockshox Judy.

The bike still rides almost as good as new after many crashes, lots of endos, even was hit by a NYC taxi. I will post pix if anyone is interested in documenting these rarely found steel hardtails.

I'm definitely interested in seeing some photos.

How do you like having that Judy on your Yosemite? I'm in the market for a new fork for my Grizzly Peak and I hadn't really considered a suspension fork until reading your post.

I had it installed when I was doing some serious off roading, its been on it since about 95, and it's really great- no issues ever.

I was going to take better pix than these, but I took it in to the shop for a new set of rapid fire shifters and a V-brake upgrade on top of a full tune-up. This means I have to take it off road again...maybe I'd better spend some money on health insurance first...yea that's right I'm one of the millions of uninsured Americans! Well, the bikes keep me healthy, it's the flying in to the trees part that's bad for your health.

Yokota bikes were made in Santa Clara , CA for about 4 years back in the early 90's according to research I found .

The late Sheldon Brown picked the 1992 Yokota Yosemite Pro as one of 1992 Best Buys .

In the article about the bike he states it has a novel front suspension fork which he predicts will be on all types of bikes in the future !

I just purchased a 1992 Yosemite Pro locally with Columbus Cr-Mo tubing equipped with original Deore DX components including hubs with Wheelsmith rims , a few scratches on the frame for just over $80 CDN .

It's provided closure for me after my 1992 Trek 950 was stolen years back so it's made my Christmas ...
