Getting into mountain biking.... is this a good deal?
So I am soon to be a convert from the roadie side of things. My company is moving me to Aberdeen Scotland for two years and I've heard they have some good mountain biking out there. I wanted to get a bike in the states before I shipped over because the exhange rate over there would kill me. Anyway, I found someone selling a 2004 Trek Liquid 25 for $850. It is all stock, no upgrades. Sounds like it is a pretty good deal, but to be honest I don't really know the first thing about mountain bikes.
Second, the Liquid is classified as a free ride bike. I kind of gathered it falls between a xc bike and a downhill bike. So it would be good for trail riding with the occasional technical downhill**********
Thanks.

Liquid line I thought was for cross country? It has what like 3-4 inches of travel? You could still take it downhill and on bumpy trails, just not really rocky stuff.

I was wrong, the Liquid is an All Mountain bike according to the Trek website. Shows how much I know about mountain biking.

Its basically a heavy duty XC/light duty freeride bike... I think its a good all around bike if you are doing a mix of XC with some more aggressive and technical stuff thrown in.

if the bike is in good condition that's a good price.
it's definitely a good place to start and will be a great bike for the trails.
you should be able to push it pretty hard,
just be aware of yourself and the bike so you'll know when you're hitting its limits.
have a great time in scotland!

If Trek won't stand behind their warranty here in the States, why would you even think about taking one over there and risk cracking or breaking the frame?
