Do you mean the rotor or the brake?

XT rotors are somewhat easily wrapped, where as Avid rotors to my experience are a bit stronger. Most of the time, as long as the rotor width are the same, you can swap them between different brake systems no problems.

When I replace my rear XT rotor, I will probably use one by Hope, Avid or Hayes.

He can use the rotor, but not the caliper.
