South Australian Downhill State Champs pics

Beautiful day of racing at the Mount Torrens Downhill track, conditions varied from dry dusty berms, off camber rocky sections, triple setters and 3-5inch deep mud mixed with cow manure, saw dust, mud and lots of riders blood.

Imagine cominf out of a dry forrest section, into a dusty off camber corner, into the "Maxxis Jetty" straight into a drop, into a double into the dustiest berm in Adelaide. Shoot out of this into off camber dry turn, over a road gap. All of this is in the space of 50m. Now land the road gap and pedal down a hill reaching 60km/h, then hitting mud 3-5inch deep, with invisible ruts up to a foot deep, now try and turn in this without running into the fence where you have to get through a gap 2.5m wide. About 70% of riders on the weekend had spectacular crashes in the mud, hitting ruts, flipping due to instant decceleration and hitting poor sapplings.

The track is in Mt Torrens, but it is private property, it belongs to a racer called Darren Moore. Anyone who trespasses answers to him, the cops and his rogue goat. Mt Torrens is a 50min drive from the CBD but I was under L plate restrictions so had a max speed of 80. So probs 40mins away.

Looks awesome dude, It's always cool to ride at someones private property for a change instead of a venue that is open ot anyone and everyone which usually is chopped up pretty bad. Anyway mate, looking good, keep up the photo work! =]

Yeah I watched a race (the only one ive ever watched!) there last year sometime. I dont think all that mud was there but I remember all the other stuff. Is the big gap at the very bottom still there? I'd say that was a good 5m or so. Did you race Hopper?

edit: is that red bike in the first pic a craftworks?...i want one

If you are to watch a race, ths is the one to go to with the big open bottom area, probs the most spectator friendly. Or Bennets with the two road gaps in succession. The big gap is still there, it has been changed to have a bigger lip and be more friendly if you case, but now its a bit longer. I think it is about 7m long. This wasn't included in the race though due to the corner after it being off camber and underwater, impossible to turn at any speed. So the finish line was about 1m from the take off so you could hit it if you wanted but not matter. Yes I did race and lets just say I didn't go too well throught the mud.... I crashed the moment I got grip after that first slosh pile! The video I have seen of it are hilarious, ET over the gap, smash through the mud, drift it then get grip, rear wheel bucks, right foot comes off, and smash into the next muddy section

Yeah it is a Craftworks S1, someone had the new red S1.... very pretty

Here are the pics I could find of me thanks to photo salvo.

And this is what breaking your collar bone looks like

The pics at the start are mine and the ones of me and the stack were taken by a guy named Tim Auld, check out his site at www.digitalsalvo.com It has photos from many of our State rounds and other sports like motor racing.

I'm not one to blow my own whistle..... Wait, yes I am but here is a photo that someone took of me which is freakin of the hook!

This one was taken by Steve the Pirate, garrrrrrrrr. The official EV photographer, he pops his ugly head up every now and then

Dale dug a hole

Well I guess I should post some of the women riders aye. Doing what they do best, showing us guys how to ride, all while dressed up as fairies

It has not been unknown for some of the guys to push a bit too hard to impress some of the ladies. And you'd be surprised how many girls we get out to some of the races!

Great pics. I gotta say the Aussies know how to put on a race and design a course as well as ride. Only thing I hate about these pics... they remind me of when we had some great courses around here but now there is no where close that I can get a good and true DH run in because of all the political BS and the power lies in the hands of idiots.
