I wear spandex under another pair of shorts to avoid looking "queer". Only difference is that I'm wearing the underarmor I have from soccer, not bike shorts. I know they aren't padded but they work and I don't feel like buying yet another pair of spandex shorts.

I wear them for several reasons. 1,they provide muscle support on long rides. 2 they provide a chamois to keep my legs from chafing and my butt from getting sore. 3 they support my snake and eggs from getting the crap beat out of them better than boxerbriefs with less constriction than an A.S. 4, they make my belly hang over more so I keep the incentive to keep riding to lose some weight. 5 when wearing a loose fitting jersey they make me look more muscular than I really am, which makes my wife REAL happy!!! to the point of.... 6, it makes some guys look away , all subcontious, jealous or something( ones like the people who ask why I wear them).7, they are very comfortable on or off the bike. when going to the store before or after a ride I put cargo shorts on over top of them. 8, I will NOT pay $80 for a pair of cheap( as in barato) baggy biking shorts when I can get top of the line for that in spandex. if folks dont like my shorts , dont look at them. this is America where we have the right to do what others disagree with. its why our military, as well as our allies are fighting all over the world: freedom

I will consider getting rid of the smiley face but there is no way I'm giving up the pink and fuschia!

Troll...and also, why is calling someone queer so derogatory? Methinks we have a homophobic troll on our hands...please return to pink bike where you can freely use phrases like "I pnwed that b*tch-a** motherf*cker after he had the balls to pass me wearing those queer shorts."
to do list for OP:
-finish high school
-stop caring what others think
-ride your bike
-get a road bike, show up to local ride in "non-queer" shorts...get dropped in first mile

If you feel uncomfortable or deficient wearing spandex shorts, you can always put a rolled up pair of tube socks down your front.

I haven't worn spandex shorts yet but picked upmy first pair at a sale this past week and wil likely start wearing them more frequently especially the bib style.

Will you go back to the road forums please. Apparently posting here causes you to go all tribal.

For extra protection under the baggy shorts. When you bash your crotch on stuff the padding helps a little bit. Wheelerer, you really know how to stir the pot!

We've got a thread with 41 posts about spandex or lycra shorts and whether or not they look queer? Umm, should I wear Lycra or denim jeans so I don't look queer?

Get a grip! Are you guys so insecure in your masculinity that you actually worry about this?

Jeez!

We all share a common enemy >> the car. I once saw a car run into a mountain biker the guy got out of his car and started yelling at him even though he was at fault. Then about 12 road bikers and 1 other mountain biker that were around converged on him and put the guy in his place. It was a sweet moment.

Your boys will probably be happier in a safe confined place rather than swinging in the breeze and then caught between your saddle and your thigh.

During exercise, groin compression is a good thing. Didn't your gym teacher ever tell you to wear your jock strap???

One very practical aspect not mentioned is that plain old lycra cycling shorts are less expensive and always a better fit than baggies.
