multi tool
can anyone reccomend a good multi tool, also are co2 pumps better than hand pumps

Throw the stick!!!!
I use a Topeak Alien, it does everything I need it to. Been carrying it for four years now.
I wouldn't say that CO2 pumps are "better" than hand pumps. They are faster, lighter, smaller which are all positives. However you won't risk running out of cartridges with a pump. Depends on what you are looking for. I carry CO2's though. I carry the inflator plus three cartridges.

I personally use Park Tools. MTB-7, I believe.

I prefer a hand pump over CO2 because I do not have to be concern about running out, and air is free.

Alien XS
and I have one of these in my Camelbak for offroad and longer rides
McGuyver
I refuse to pay for CO2 when I can pump all the air I want for free. That plus I see way too many bozos chucking thier empties out on the trail.

I've got the Alien, the Alien XS, and the Hummer. Depends on what you need in a tool. They all have some pretty standard tools, but some have a knife blade, chain tool, or torx wrench for disc brakes. Oh, some also have handy tire levers. You choose what's important. Crank Bros has the best warranty/customer service.
Get a compact pump. If you're lazy, get a compact pump/CO2 combo. I like the Sigma pumps that have a hose and a fold-out stand, like a mini floor pump. But that's for our tandem. My other bikes just have basic compact or mini pumps.

I just bought Spin Doctor™ Rescue FS Multi-Tool for $18.97. Was this a good buy? I am looking to get back into riding and trying to get the accesories I will need.

I have a Topeak. Whatever you buy, make sure it has a chain tool so that you can remove/repair a chain if one breaks on the trail. The Topeak has a great chaintool, but you have to remember to bring an allen wrench in order to operate the chain tool.

honestly, i am not so sure about multi tools. i have an alien topeak, and well it has a number of useful tools, and they have been handy to me on the trail and on the road, but it sure is a pain in the ass to work with them multi tools. i prefer stand alone tools. i have a biggish seat bag, ugly- but practical, so i can fit a number of things inside it. i do carry the multi tool along too, just in case, but try to carry other stand alone stuff, like allen wrenches, chain tool, small pliers, etc. just today for some weird reason i broke my chain twice. now if i had only the multi tool i am sure i would have still gotten back home on time, but it sure would have been a pain in the ass trying to work with that midget thingmajig. or maybe i just got fat fingers.

i have the crank bros multi 19 truthfully, i have only used like 7 of the tools but it makes me feel good knowing i have more. I carry co2 just because i have a friend who works at a bike shop and another friend who works at a paintball shop so i get them for free. I like how easy 12 g's are but dislike the jangling on my entire ride

though if i ever spend money on a camel back or something (and well, proper tools too), i would carry as many tools as i can. there is nothing worse than being stranded on a trail with a tool two inches shorter than my grandmothers penis. well, nothing except having no tools at all of course..

I'm OC when it comes to building bikes. My multi-tool is just a placebo, nothing ever goes wrong on the trail*.
