Super-D Sunday at Mt. Spokane. What a fun way to end the season. Nothing super-technical on this trail - - just a nice, flowy bunch of singletrack that went (mostly) down. About three short climbs to keep us heavy-bike guys honest and test our legs and lungs. It was so much fun that I got in a as many practice runs Saturday as I could with a late start.

I managed first in the 50+ Expert and my friends Arnold Mukai and Terry Dickey took second and third. Good times!

The whole course was silty powder - -good thing we had 1:00 intervals for the start; the dust really hung in the deep woods sections.

Me and my trusty Gran Mal in the background . . . dunno why I had that sour expression; I was havin' fun all day!

Podium: Arnold, me and Terry. The old farts rule!

Hi D,

Cool pictures. but the quality of the pictures can not hide the fact that you have been cheating. 50+ expert category, huh.......Your friends in the picture look about 60+ and you look less than 40. Also, I have reasons to believe that you have offered your friends some good beer - pre and post race (look at the picture). Yeah, you came first, but it is hardly a competition when you are racing against two fully loaded (with beer) and friendly older gentlemen (or should I say senior citizens). Congratulations anyway.

all seriousness aside. Good to see you racing D. Wish I would be racing like you are when I am "50+".

thansk for sharing the pics.

Haha - - thanks! Really, Arnold looks younger and more spry than me in person by far. (I, on the other hand, have enough crowsfeet and wrinkles to outfit three codgers I figure.) He's also a pedalin' fool; he beat me in our state championship race - -something I vowed to get revenge for.

As it was I got him by nearly 30 seconds in my just-under-6-minute run. Terry I believe might be 60. Unfortunately they didn't make a 60+ Expert just for him. But his NORBA points will reflect it. It was a fun weekend and we have a lot of fun yakkin' and giving each other a bad time. There is NO truth to the rumor I plied them with "good beer" - -that was a Kokanee inflatible can in the background. Kokanee does not qualify. Now if it'd been Deschutes or something you might have a case. As for us pre-race, Powerade, granola bars and Clif Shots are about as heady as it gets.

course was changed from a cool route in the hills of Grand Junction, CO to a loop around a gravel/dirt parking lot using traffic cones. Dead flat

46˚ w/rain is NEVER fun. It's freezing your ***** off.

13th I think? The course was dead flat... not so good for me. I was 4th in ST last weekend, with a nice big hill

Out for my sunday ride....it's a gorgeous fall day...leaves are just starting to fall. I'm out on the Baker's Ridge Trails behind the WVU farm, and I've decided to make the trek home...

Coming down the large hill that marks the major climb at the beginning of the ride ( a hill I routinely barrel down on the way home)...my front tire decides to get caught in a rut while i'm going 18-20mph...

Of course I endo...Somehow I managed to fall the "right way" tucked my arms in and rolled...came down hard on my right shoulder and slid for a good 10 yards or so down the hill...lay there for 5 min or so trying to assess if anything was broken before I tried to stand up...I initially though I might have dislocated my shoulder...

Luckily nothing was..and my bike even managed to come to a stop right by me as well...not a scratch on it..wheels still true..

This was my first really high speed crash on a mountain bike...(or any bike for that matter)..scared the hell out of me...but in a strange way I'm almost proud of it...

When I got home I assessed the damage to myself...rash down most of the right side of my body...worst at the hip....could have been much worse..

Mesquite Trail-White Tank Mountains in Phoenix, AZ. 85 degees and sunny with breeze.
4 mile climb and 4 mile hike down. Rear stem ripped at tube, forgot spare and hiked my rookie ass back to the car. 1 for 3 on this trail. Mega rough terrain on several areas, but worth the hike a bike and ride as you reach smooth trails towards the upper sections of the mountain.

Last Sat, took advice and headed right at Willow Canyon to Ford Canyon. Made a left at Ford Canyon back to the Mesquite. Unfortunatly, the Mesquite is under construction at the top, so I went right at the cross trails from the peak down, what I thought was the Mesquite detour, and ventured down past the roped off part of the Mesquite. From a distance, it looked to be a fast downhill from the top. Next time, I will complete the loop by connecting to Goat Camp.

Came back home for the weekend from college. I got some riding time in at deer grove, a local trail by me around the Chicago suburbs.

Good long ride in Spokane today. Started at Sontag Park and hit the trails at Riverside State park then up to the Militray cemetary.
Climbed Houston Rd to the trails at Palisades park. Palisades has seen a vast improvement since Rimrock Rd has been gated off.
There is some nice single track in the area. The two pics are from Riverside and the weather is cool, cloudy and a little damp. Great riding weather.
