Meant to take a short ride today but ended up going 15 miles on some new trails off my usual route. It's like a time warp or something when you follow a new trail and start having fun with it, get sort-of lost and try to find your way back to where ever. I was looking for climbs and did the only two decent ones in my immediate area since I figured I wouldn't be out that long and wanted a decent workout. The weather here in greater-Boston is supposed to be miserable the rest of the week, so I know I won't get out much. Ended up stealing about 1:40 from work and missed the start of a conference call. Ah well.

I am at the point where if a day goes by without riding, it's a bad day.

I also told the SSG squad last year how disapointed I was when the race commish didn't use his resources (locals who know every inch of the Mansion) to design a great course that could be doable by all levels and still challenging to the Experts. He also didn't seem to want any help on race day. Then he ended up messing up the times again 2 yrs in a row. Giving out gold medals to silver winners. The silvers had enough class to return the gold when they realized what happened.

'Could have been so much better.

Nope indeed...I'm just riding.
For the uninformed, the SSG (Sunflower State Games) spawned from the "Get fit Kansas" program, which was about getting some exercise and not so much about win or lose. Thats why they offer Horseshoe and disc golf competition. It's about fresh air and exercise. But Over the years it has become a mecca for easy
medals for those who settle to "stay on the porch" instead of "running with the big dogs" And They are the ugliest medals yo ever saw! I dunno!

I should say my mileage goal for the week is 400miles. Being at 273miles now, I'm well on my way.

I'm done with school tomorrow so if you want to ride anytime I'm basically free. But I go out of town the 6th, hope it dries up by then. It should, and I've heard Landahl is in killer shape. Pre-rain, at least.

Never had to get off and walk though. It's funny how I think I'm gonna get burned out at the top of a climb with that thing, but when I get there...I still have enough gas left to keep going and still recover. All that positive power crap...every ounce of downward force on the crankset is going straight to power instead of getting sucked up with suspension...heck man, I dunno.

(I didn't do any of the back section, B2B...but I did all the SSG loop 2x forward and 1x reverse)

how fast are you typically going over that kinda rocky terrain? you fall off on that road theres gona be all sorts of pain involved lol

Sounds good, I'll be busy the weekend of the 6th too but we'll get together.

Don't really know...when I rode it on my XLT, I was just plowing through it all. On my front susp. Komodo...I still go through it pretty quick, I guess. On the rigid...I try to dice through it fairly quick...remember I'm on a 32/15 ratio right now, so slow isn't too doable.

Falling + rocks = mountain biking. Pain only lasts for a short time, right?

Rode with the wife (who ran) Tuesday. Yesterday and today were/are a bit wet, so just went to the default trail rather than drive somewhere else.

All of my friends were at a soccer game or working, so I went up to one of the easier places on my dad's full rigid Jamis (the Can'o'ale is having some headset issues that need work). All I can say is that not having 5 inches of cush up front is quite hard but quite fun at the same time. Felt faster on the smooth crap, but it was downright painful on the rocky stuff. I ended up riding with some guy I kind of know. Not only is the wrist that always bothers me sore, but my other one is too. Good time, and yet another bike I need to build up (I now need a freeride bike and a SS full rigid, oh, plus a car, and all the money I can find for college, because I have no chance what so ever for any kind of scholarship other than maybe perfect attendance).

Did a "short" ride on the old rigid Raleigh at the Mansion tonight with my almost-6-year-old on the seat on the back. It's a good test of skill with a kid on there b/c log crossings HAVE TO BE smooth , slow, and somewhat trials'y so you don't shake your poor kid to death. That freakin' paved climb in the back hurt like none other with her on there.

I got 3/4 up the hill and started prayin' for inner strength like I nevah had before. I actually made it up there w/o stopping, but the base of my trachea (right in the notch where they put a trach tube) burned like a son-of-a-gun for about an hour afterward. I was having some chest pain too with deep breaths.

I knew I pushed it too hard when I was doing it, but it was the 1st time I'd ridden with my oldest daughter on the seat this year and I didn't wanna gimp out
