Im too damn stubborn to try them. Ive been using Shimano triggers for way too long I guess.Once you get used to something it's hard to switch. Ive hardly ridden my geared bikes in forever anyhow.SS cures so many troubles.

I ride em.

I know I posted earlier on this thread, but I went for a 1 hour ride on my hybrid Trek 720 on the 1st of the year. It has grip shifters. I found I liked them on this bike. It's easy to turn that shifter when I'm taking a relaxed ride.
I don't have them on either of my MTBs and I still don't want Grip Shift on my MTBs.

2 Attachment(s)
on both my mtbs, at least for the rear. 9 spd setup, pulling cable for x-9 medium cage rear mech in both cases, using full housing runs. smooooothe.

both fronts are the same full housing setup, but pulled by NOS suntour xc-expert thumbies. love 'em!

i've never had problems with them shifting unwanted, and i ride some fairly gnarly technical terrain, with some moderate drops and so on.........not sure what some of you are doing wrong to be having them shift on their own........ :D

I liked mine on my old bike, but have since switched to rapidfires and appreciate no longer having ghost shifts.

The only thing I don't like about my gripshifts is their sound. Everytime I shift it feels like I'm breaking something, plus I can't sneak on people from behind :D. Other than that, they are just perfect for me.

I have the SRAM grip shifter and like them. I did run into a problem though. I put Avid brake levers on and the lever is not as long as the factory ones. Now I have to reach a little for the levers if I don't keep my hand partially on the shifter. I was going to try to cut the grip shift down a little but decided I better leave well enough alone.

hey that is a sweet idea!!! i never thought of that. as long as you cut not too much, do it nicely, and put the plastic shim back in place that sounds like a great idea. go for it

i hate grip shifts. i dont see any huge advantage over regular shifters and i always shift on dh parts when twist my hands on the bars. some people like them, fine with me. i cant ride with them.

I am looking at a new Diamond Back with grip shifters.I think it is a good idea.I want to try it out though. If it works like I think I will be going that way.
I am looking at two bikes.the DB outlook and the Raliegh Mojove 2.0
made by the same company, one has triggers and the other has twistys. One is hundred dollars more than the other.I wanna ride both and see.
The problem with ghost shifting it has to be in the placement of the hands.I mean I have pretty good size hands and I don't see a problem.I clear them pretty well but like I said I want to test ride first.

Flak 01-05-06 01:26 PM

The problem with trying grip shifting, is that it will take more than a short test ride to really adjust. You could end up loving them, but you wont know that from a test ride.

A system that ******** takes a while to get used to.

I hate grip shift. :)

budster 01-05-06 05:52 PM

I've used them, off and on, for the last 11 years. I guess I prefer triggers, but I don't hate grippies or anything. They get the job done. I did have some 'autoshifting' problems, but sliding them inboard on the handlebars fixed that (I wanted to replace the stock grips anyway).

I prefer shifter orientation to be utilized on my downtube
