Winter Riding in Boston

Is there any places for mountain biking open in the winter months? Thanks. My classes end at the end of this month I want to do some riding in Janurnay before classes start again.

I think most of the state parks (like Great Brook in Carlisle and Callahan in Framingham), are open. The Middlesex Fells is definitely closed January 1 to mid-April, as is Lynn Woods. All the state parks are listed here http://www.mass.gov/dcr/recreate/mtnbike.htm and here http://www.mass.gov/dcr/recreate/biking.htm, but I couldn't find information about seasonal closures. Please consider trail conditions when deciding whether to ride.

for you boston people, where do you go to get your bike worked on? and where do you purchase parts?

I do my own maintenance. For MTB parts, I like Cycle Loft in Burlington. I live outside Boston, and I don't like to go in town unless I really have to...

I go to JRA Cycles in Medford (www.jracycles.com) for emergency parts and I go to Back Bay Bicycles (www.backbaybicycles.com) for getting work done on my bike that I can't do myself.

I go to international bicycle shop. I trust the peopel there, and they are actually socialable and care about your needs.

i keep getting mixed reviews about back bay bicycles. not sure who to go to if i need things done to my bike that i can't do. i got my bike at international bike shop though. maybe i'll just go there to have stuff done.

Head for the Cape, considering your time frame, to try to minimize the snow factor. Haven't seen any winter closings for any of their parks. When I lived on No. Shore I headed for the roads w/my beater starting in Dec. Live in ATL now....mtbing is unaffected by the on slaught of winter. Check out MTB trail reviews.

Is this for my safety or the trail safety?

Both.....but if there's no snow and you want to head north, the Georgetown Woods/Bradley Palmer/Rowley has endless single track off of the fire roads. These 3 areas are all conx and you can easily become lost if you're not familiar w/the area. Some shared use by horses and atv's.
