I'm helping a friend purchase his first mountain bike and was looking around and found this Gary Fisher for $375. It is for sale locally and they say it is in like new shape.
Is this a good deal?

My apologies it's a Tass. Disc

Well just so you know the bike originally retailed for $619. In my opinion $375 is a little high for the bike. I would offer $250 - $300 for it and see what happens.

Here are some reviews on the bike.

I have an '03 Tassajara (one of the reviews in the link above is mine) and I love it. I've been abusing mine since I bought it and and have a couple of thousand miles on it. Most of the components... fork, cranks, BB,derailaurs, headset etc are original. If it's the Tass disc and is as nice as they say, Buy it. Anything brand new and comparably equipped including a new Tass disc will cost around $700 anyway. One of the weaknesses of the Tass was the lousy Pro Max v brakes. I even put discs on mine after a year. So the price may be a tad steep.... Do you want to lose the deal for a couple of $$. Oh, do make sure to try the bike out first. The geometry may feel a little strange at first. Some people think it's a marketing ploy but there does seem to be a bit of a difference between Fishers and some other brands frame geometries. Another thing your friend will like if just starting out is the 34 tooth cog in the rear. It's great for climbing, and the 44 tooth big front ring lets you get some great speed on faster trails. Hope this was helpful. Good luck and keep us posted.

Oops, I didn't catch the disc part, definately ups the value a few bucks. If it is the disc version and it's in like new condition then I would say that $375 is a pretty fair price.

Sorry about that.

I almost missed the disc part also. It wasn't until I saw LowCel's post and thought his evaluation was a little low that I went to the link. Then I realized it was the disc model. I completely missed it in the original post. Any decisions yet, ibrown?

Look at it good. If it is in new like shape then that is a good deal. I have an 04 Tass (not disc) and love it. It has been rock solid for me for over a year of pretty hard riding.
