Also, if you go w/ the K2, if you live near a SuperGo, they are having huge blowouts on alot of their bikes, and good deals on Specialized since they are stopping selling them so they getting rid of their current lot. If you live near on might want to go check it out

Hardrock Sport, without a doubt. Then with the 180 dollar difference I'd get a decent helmet, pump, tire levers, spare tube, multi tool and if you've got some left over then save them for new pedals (they'll most likely break in the not too distant future).

Avalanche 2.0, its a great bike for the price. Nice sturdy frame and components. For me it is a better choice than the other two. I tried both Avalanche and Hardrock, hardrock felt clumsy to me. ya, people will say you can do ***feet jumps with it, but mountain biking is not all about jumping off. Hardrock tries to do a little bit of everything, does nothing specially well. Avalanche is a solid entry level XC bike.

Avalanche handles much better, and the triple triangle geometry gives you (IMHO) a balanced ride (less flex).

I have a K2 zed 4.0, its a sweet ride. but there are significant difference in the frame (construction) between K2 zed 2.0 and zed 4.0

Finally, every other teenager in my neighborhood rides a hardrock, nothing wrong with it, but i like uniqueness.

Hope this is helpful.
