Galyans?

Anyone in the Mid-west/West shop at Galyans? They are moving to my area, Massachusetts, and was wondering if anyone had good or bad experiences with them as a store. They look to be REI meets Sports Authority...Thanks.

REI meets Sports Authority. That's about right.

Galyans isn't bad. They cover alot of ground so their selection in any particular department is somewhat limited.

They have some decent canoes and a very limited selection of paddling equipment but last time I was there there was not a decent kayak in the place.

The one we have here in the Kansas City area is stocked pretty well. I have bought ritchey stubby bar ends, extra bottle cage, fox water bottles, and lots of riding clothes there. They carry Cannondale bikes, as well as top of the line suspension and drivetrain components.

I've spent a little money at the local Galyans. They recently brought in a TON of Colnagos which I plan on test riding real soon.

I haven't been to any of the others but the store here is HUGE and covers most of the outdoor/sport bases. It doesn't necessarily have the same kind of people as you'd find at the LBS so don't go in there looking for an education on cycling but they're still helpful when you're looking for something.

Thanks for the replys. That's cool that they have Colnago, I'll have to look into that, just got a part-time job at the new one here in Massachusetts. Hopefully it will be a good second job.

This may only be a regional thing, (we have 3 stores in the Mpls./St Paul Minnesota area) none of our stores carry Colnago...

My local Galyans has a lot of lower end bikes, and a few very high end bikes. They did have Ellsworth Truth, Dare, and Sub 22 frames on the wall, very rare to find at a bike shop. They also had a full line of Pedro's tools, a few Bob Yak's, and a huge display of cycling clothing. I wouldnt use them as a LBS, but wouldnt mind spending a few bucks there.

You're right about the regional selection...but I might be able to special order one if they are somewhere in the system...we shall see.
